Using Irish crochet techniques and created in pearlised wire, this large sculptural piece celebrates the flora and fauna found in the Devon hedgerows during June.
LED lighting, woven within the flowers and butterflies, light up to reveal the delicacy of the crochet work and create and enhance the ephemeral glow of this piece.
Created in 2007, this lighting sculpture was commissioned as part of the New Eyes project which focused upon new media in the Blackdown Hills.
This sculpture is now my inspiration for my new range of woven willow lighting.
It is only recently that I have truly realised how much this sculpture bought together my love since childhood of wild flowers and of crafting, marked such a significant time in my life, (I created this sculpture in celebration of the birth of my eldest daughter), as well as reflecting my passion for nature.

Being able to be placed both vertically and horizontally, this 2 metre wide sculpture enabled both sunlight and it's integrated lighting to create pattern and shadow. In effect 'lacing' the viewer into the sculpture.
