Zarzo Basket Day October 2020
Thank you for a great basket course yesterday, really enjoyed the day and absolutely love my square Zarzo basket!! Your passion, enthusiasm and skill are so inspiring, you are a true pioneer for the industry.
Just a thought re ‘commercial Basket makers’- what about artisan makers as an alternative description?
Very best wishes,
Rosie" (pictured bottom left)
"LOVED making my zarzo basket on Friday (despite the wrist) and definitely want to make another basket. Friends also interested! I think I’m on your mailing list but can you just check because I wouldn’t want to miss my chance. Thanks! 💕" Nichola (pictured top left)
General Basket Willow Day October 2020
What can we say?
An amazing day. Thank you so much. Your enthusiasm and passion for English willow is awesome and inspiring. My wrists are throbbing, the wine is poured. Thank goodness we ‘ listened’ to your email! We are soo proud of our baskets.
Hope to meet you again.
You did amazingly.
All the best

Willow Animal Sculpture Day October 2020
Extracts from email conversation:
"Hi Sarah, Thank you for a great day of willow sculpting. It’s taken me a while as we have been so busy but I wanted you to see the camel and see if you thought I need to do more to it...." Amanda
"I think that your camel looks amazing - remember you were a beginner! You’ve had the confidence to take your willow animal home and keep going, which is brilliant. Good hump (much better) and I can even see the camel’s eye! This is a great achievement and I don’t think you need to weave anymore on the camel." Sarah
"Hi Sarah, Thank you so much. All my friends and family love it! I’m hoping to get the legs wired and treat it and put it outside before Christmas. I will definitely be back!" Amanda
"Dear Sarah ,
Thank you so much for your time , enthusiasm and patience , today was amazing. My basket is awesome,Can’t believe I have made it!! It’s such an amazing skill that you have and share . It’s an escape for a day for me !!! Love it!! Take care Mel xx
Oh do you have another basket making course this year ?? I have another friend who would love it !! M xx" February 2019
I just wanted to say thank you very much for yesterdays course, I truly had a great day learning willow weaving for the first time and you have inspired me to do more. You are clearly very passionate about what you do and it radiates through your teaching which was fantastic." Paul. November 2018
"Hi Sarah, I just wanted to thank you for a thoroughly amazing and enjoyable day on Saturday! I was completely buzzing when I got home and all my family and friends have been bored rigid by photos of my basket!
I enjoyed many aspects of the day - learning a new skill, being patient (rare for me!) and meeting new people (and Tam). Willow is incredible to work with and I would like to do some more so watch out for my name popping up on your sculpture days later in the year!" Jane. June 2018
Amazing testimonial written for me after I created a White Willow Swan Sculpture to surround a casket.
(Please note that in line with my clients' wishes I have not included any images of this sculpture but have accompanied this testimonial with an image of the White Willow Dove that I more recently created.)
"It was due to misfortune to myself and my family that we had to get in touch with Sarah regarding our late Son. We originally commissioned a willow casket from a separate company, we wanted a unique, special burial in memory of our son and after extensive research we stumbled across Sarah’s willow sculptures, having examined the quality and detail to her portfolio, it was an easy decision for us. We cannot give enough praise to both the work we had commissioned and her extremely sensitive professionalism and approach to our very sensitive matter.
We had a clear idea of what we wanted, specifically a Swan to cradle the casket, Sarah’s intuition and artistic license transformed our idea into reality in record timescale. She went beyond the call of duty to deliver the piece cross-country to the casket company in time for our son’s funeral.
In my personal experience, it was extremely well priced given the scale and enormity of the task, there simply were no flaws or any faults we found on the receiving end. Put it simply, it is one of the most sincere services I have personally received. Sarah’s ability to anticipate and her caring character really translated well in her sculptural piece, we couldn’t have been more pleased with the work.
Unfortunately we wish to remain anonymous as well as keeping all images private, we hope our endorsement in words for this very talented artist will be sufficient.
Thank you once again, we wish you every bit of success and a healthy prosperous future ahead."
"Dear Sarah, thank you so much for another fabulous willow weaving day. I booked the animal sculpture day always intending to do a deer. The night before I changed my mind to do an Otter and I am so glad I did. Thanks to your skilled tutoring and comprehensive guidance I managed to get something that does resemble an Otter. I adore him by my pond, see photo. You are a truly inspirational artist and your enthusiasm is infectious. I realised at the end of the willow day that I hadn’t stopped smiling all day. Thank you so much. Best wishes Caroline." May 2018
"I did so enjoy the lantern day, and many thanks for being so patient and helping me out when I gave up a bit! I finished the lantern yesterday and hung it on a hanging basket hook in front of my front door." Caroline. February 2018
"I attended your first Willow basket making course on Friday 12th January. It was magic!
I had such a lovely day and so enjoyed myself and was totally delighted with my basket which sits very happily by my log burner. It was an absolute delight to be taught by yourself and Tam x". Kerry. January 2018
"Just to say thank you for a wonderful day on your reindeer course . I really enjoyed the whole day and although went home tired but happy!
It’s lovely to get totally immersed into a project and think of nothing else! Thank you for sharing
Your enthusiasm and passion for the ancient craft
I’ve finished the antlers and face area and so ready for Christmas!
I would hope to do another one of your courses in the new year but meanwhile thanks again." Merna. November 2018
Just to thank you so much for yet another wonderful day. You are such an excellent teacher and put 101% into the whole thing that you must arrive back home totally exhausted (especially after such a hot day Friday) and then I think you had another class on Saturday. I am sending a photo of my Crane (Georgina she is called, a mate for the other one I made called George). I spent all of yesterday adding to her tail and made her head a bit more pronounced. I am really happy with her.
Just to say Sarah, that I am so pleased to have found you - your workshops are amazing and by the end of the day, everyone produces their own little work of art - all due to your inspiration and direction. Well done." Maria. 9th July 2017
"Also FYI - I think you're a star, so inspiring ...and I love your enthusiasm and passion for the art form - yes its a craft but that sounds fuddy duddy!! I really enjoy my days at your workshops as even an old cynic like me gets sooo much positivity from these sculpture days!
I love the fact that it really does focus your mind and it so creative..." Nigel. 24 May 2017
Many many thanks for such a super course. Great presentation & format & we all went home with something amazing. I learnt so many skills & it was so much fun , so thank you!" Jackie.8 May 2017
"Thought you might like to see my sheep - Dolly. As you can see I went a bit mad and the proportions went a bit haywire but well it's all good practice for next time! Thanks again!
...I'm sure you will inspire another group to fall in love with willow and basketry. I shall keep practicing and developing what you have taught me and look forward to seeing you again soon." Bev. 18 April 2017
Wow, what a brilliant day that was yesterday, thank you so much. I don't really do much creative stuff so to arrive home with the Stag as evidence of day's sculpting was just great. Liz is well impressed. You are a great teacher and your complete enthusiasm is very infectious. With best wishes and kind regards, Guy." 18 March 2017
"I just wanted to send you an email to say what an inspiration you are. You are such an excellent teacher and from the moment I arrived on Friday, I could feel your enthusiasm for and love of working with willow. You taught us so much and by the time I left (I think I was the last!), despite feeling exhausted, I was exhilarated too having learned a new skill and all due to you." Maria. 26 February 2017
"Just like to say how much I enjoyed my day with you making a goose your enthusiasm for willow is wonderful and I found the whole day very interesting and learnt more than I imagined that I would. Love my goose and have managed to make a couple of wreaths for my doors for Christmas...Thanks again" Kathy. November 2016
(Kathy's amazing Goose is the one on the left in the photo!)
First of all, many many thanks for such a wonderful course, I have rarely spent two such useful days. Exhausted (but so must you be!) but thoroughly satisfied, my two deer are already blending into my garden!.... I loved your work and very much admire what you are trying to do. With best wishes, Caroline" June 2016
“Dear Sarah, A BIG thank you for such an excellent day! Your enthusiasm seems to have no bounds.... And you're doing it all again tomorrow!!! I thoroughly enjoyed my first attempt at willow animal sculpture….Thanks again. SO Inspiring!”
Pauline. May 2016
"Dear Sarah, I wanted to say a huge thank you to you for an amazing day yesterday. For a first attempt I am so proud of my efforts and can see exactly what I would do to develop my idea and create my next piece of art. Thinking about how the willow wants to be used and spending more time allowing an organic development of the animal's shape will help me to improve my sculpting! I thought you might just like to see her in an unfinished state this morning as the sun rose. She is leaping over our flood protection bank, with signs of the winter floods and a small willow bed behind our home. Using willow around our garden seems the right thing to do since we live on Curry Moor, literally the next moor from Hay Moor where Coates grow their willows!....
Again, thank you Sarah, you are such a great teacher and as a Head I recognise this!" Claire. March 2016
Hi Sarah, I just wanted to email to say a huge thank you for your patience, I know I have been a difficult customer.... I have to say your workshops are crammed full of information and techniques and I loved the " behind the scenes, back lot tour". You are so passionate about your craft and that inspires the class you teach. On my last workshop(I'm sure you were dreading my arrival) I absolutely loved it. It felt that I had finally grasped the nettle and went head on with willow rods in hand and went for it. It was reassuring that you were there at my side in my hour of need to guide me through it all." Jen. March 2015
"Hi Sarah, thanks for a wonderful course. Here is mr foxy all finished :)" Julie. March 2016
