Modern Makers & Antiquaries Event

On Wednesday 22nd October I had the great experience of being part of the Modern Makers & Antiquaries event held by the Society of Antiquaries, Burlington House, London. Craftspeople, artists, researchers and heritage professionals were brought together to celebrate intangible heritage and discuss: how can modern makers and antiquaries inform one another’s practice? How can the Society of Antiquaries support craftspeople in their pursuits?

Following demonstrating skein work making and basketry, (skeins are fine silk like ribbons made from cleaving and shaving down willow rods), I gave a presentation about what it is to be a Modern Maker and my time as Maker in Residence at Kelmscott Manor. It was really inspiring to hear presentations by Alison Proctor and Sarah Davies, the two previous Makers In Residence and other inspiring artists and makers.
