Regency Fitched Round Basket

from £130.00

Depicted in the Regency Era holding fruit or flowers, this is a highly decorative open-work basket. The prized white willow is shown to it’s advantage through the use of the advanced basketry techniques of fitching and skeining.

Part of the Regency Era Basket Collection. Meticulously researched for historical accuracy from paintings and prints of the era, this collection has been created for the Jane Austen Festival in Bath. Exclusively available on Sarah’s website.

During Sarah’s research she discovered that these fitched open-work baskets have both what are now known as English and French bases, with the stakes of the basket either pierced into the base or scallomed on. This particular version is inspired by a basket depicted in the oil painting A Bottle of Wine c1815 by William Redmore Bigg (1755 - 1828), Judge’s Lodgings, Lancaster.

Handwoven using white willow (stripped Black Maul variety), locally sourced from the Somerset Levels.

Large: Width 33cm x Height 21cm (39cm with handle) Small: Width 26cm x Height 18cm (32cm with handle).

The Regency Fitched Round Basket price is inclusive of UK mainland P&P. For all other countries please contact Sarah before purchasing to arrange additional shipping cost.
